God is Able — Are We Willing?

“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen” (Eph. 3:20-21).

Scripture reveals many of the awe-inspiring things God did for His people in the past. There were at least three periods when miracles occurred routinely. Miracles occurred frequently during the time of Moses and Joshua, Elijah and Elisha, and Jesus and the apostles. Of course, miracles also occurred in other periods, but not as many and as often as in these periods.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to experience a miracle? Have you wondered what it would be like to see miracles occurring frequently? Have you ever wondered why we do not see or experience many [any ?] miracles today?

Miracles are always God’s will and His sovereign work. We cannot predict when miracles will happen. We cannot make miracles happen, but I am convinced that we can hinder them. Scripture clearly states that God can do more than we think He can do. He can even do more than we ask Him to do. One of  things  that may limit God’s miraculous working in our lives and ministry is small thinking and praying.

If we do not think God can or will do something great, we will not ask God to do great things. If we do not ask God to do great things, it is certain we will not expect Him to do great things. We must not make the same mistake the people of Capernaum made. The Bible notes, “Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief” (Matt. 13:58).

Have you asked God to do something great in your life? Have you asked God to do something great in our church and in our community? Are you expecting something great? God is able to do something great in your life and in our church, but may be hindered from doing great things because of our lack of faith and prayer. Are you willing to pray for and expect great things from God? If so, start asking and expecting something miraculous today!

Idolatry in 21st Century America

Many claim they do not believe in God because they cannot see Him.  It is hard for many to believe in or worship a God they cannot see. For these reasons, man has created images to represent God from almost the very beginning of human existence. Idols are man’s futile attempt ...

Get Off the Wall!

I have a confession to make. I did something foolish yesterday. I am telling you about it so that you will not make the same mistake and can hold me accountable in this area. I turned on the road behind the church while trying to handle my cell phone. I took my ...

You Reap What You Sow

The Bible says, "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows,  that he will also reap."I met someone this past week who is learning what the above passage means. He told me that his girlfriend recently dumped him, he attempted suicide because of his depression, his boss fired him ...

Lessons from Greensburg

A Category EF5 tornado roared through Greensburg, Kansas on Friday, May 4, destroying approximately 95% of the town. The tornado left a path of unbelievable destruction. Many citizens of that small town lost everything of material value. Many feel empathy when they hear about such a tragedy. Many are moved to pray or to find other ways to ...
